As of 5th January 2012 the main public facing telephone number for the General Register Office for England and Wales has changed to 0300 123 1837.

BAAF has recently been informed that its proposed project on the legal anomalies affecting descendants of deceased adopted peoples’ access to information was not included in the final list of projects for the Law Commission’s Eleventh Programme of Law Reform solely due to Commission’s lack of resources.

Adopted Adults Get Together on 19th November 2011 - 10/10/11
The Intercountry Adoption Centre (IAC) and the Transnational and Transracial Adoption Group (TTAG) have organised a get together for transnationally adopted adults and adopted or long-term fostered adults who are searching for relatives who may live in another country.

The British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) has launched a series of ‘Ten Top Tips’ for adopted people and birth family members who are considering making contact using social networking sites such as Facebook, as well as adoptive parents whose son or daughter want to make contact or has been contacted.
 
BBC Documentary on Adoption and Facebook - 24/5/11
BBC3 are making a documentary which will look at the ways in which tracing of birth relatives has been affected by the advent of Facebook and other social media and are looking for people who'd like to be involved in the project.
 
Adoption and Interpersonal Relationships Study - 16/5/11
Adults (adopted and non-adopted) are invited to take part in an online research project which will explore how adults feel about their current close relationships.
 
Results of Tracing Birth Relatives Survey - 27/9/10
A survey recently conducted by BAAF has found that Almost 1 in 5 adopted people and birth families have waited 6 months or more for information about their birth relatives from professional adoption tracing agencies 
 
New Tracing Guide Launched - 27/9/10
A practical guide to assist adopted adults who are thinking of tracing their birth relatives has been added to the Adoption Search Reunion website.
