Accessing Information and Intermediary Services: Practice Guidance Published - 29/5/08
The Government has published guidance for practitioners working with adopted adults and birth relatives who wish to find out about an adoption, or to trace and establish contact with their birth relatives through the provision of intermediary services.
This long-awaited non-statutory guidance aims to promote good practice and to provide a comprehensive resource for practitioners working with adopted adults and birth relatives. It includes advice and guidance on:
  • the provision of intermediary services to birth relatives and adopted adults
  • the provision of birth records counselling
  • access to information for adopted adults
  • the disclosure of adoption information in post-commencement adoptions
  • cross-border and international issues
