Birth children in adoptive families: Student research project - 26/02/10
Are you the sibling of an adopted person? Did your parents adopt a child when you were growing up (or before you were born)? If so please consider this invitation to participate in an undergraduate research project.
The effects of adoption on birth children
My name is Rebecca Dean and I am currently in my final year of Sociology with Social Policy degree at the University of Warwick. Following an internship at British Association of Adoption and Fostering ( BAAF) last summer I have decided to write my dissertation on the effects that adopting a child has on birth children within that family.
How can you help?
I am looking to recruit people for a small scale study which will involve a short interview. I am looking for people from all age groups and it does not matter if you were a child, teenager or adult when the adoption took place. I will be happy to carry out the interview via the method most convenient for you, be this either telephone or in person.
How long would it take?
Approximately 15 minutes.
Confidentiality and Ethics
My research will be in line with The British Sociological Statement of Ethical Practise, which acknowledges the use made of the ethical codes and the statements of the Sociological Research Association. I will ensure that all research participants are afforded full anonymity and confidentiality and will be able to reject the use of data-gathering devices such as tape recorders.

If you are interested or would like to hear more information about the study or would be willing to be involved then please email me (r.a.dean@warwick.ac.uk)

With many thanks
Rebecca Dean
